Facial Fillers (JuvédermT and Restylane®)With two hot names in facial dermal fillers, how can you know which product is best for your unique make up? Solaris Med Spa can consult with you and suggest the most appropriate product to plump your lips and contour your face for a more beautiful you! PurposeRestylane® and Juvéderm™ are facial dermal fillers made up of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid (HA). They come in an injectable syringe and are commonly used for lip enhancement and facial contouring. Restylane® and Juvéderm™ restore fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Both provide volumizing and correction to facial wrinkles and folds. Non-Surgical ProcedureRestylane® and Juvéderm™ are indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines), oral commissures (marionette lines), and perioral lines (smoker’s lines). Both products are relatively safe and offer minimal recovery and/or downtime. Side effects are mild to moderate, lasting up to one week. They include temporary injection site reactions like redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and/or bumps. The risks of allergic reactions are minimal. Studies with Juvéderm™ showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color. One of the differences between Restylane® and Juvéderm™ is that Juvéderm™ has the highest concentration of cross-linked HA (24 mg/mL). This means that it resists degradation, and therefore last longer. Juvéderm™ offers clinically-proven persistence, up to six months or longer, whereas Restylane® normally lasts three to six months. Another difference is that Juve’Derm offers two product lines, whereas Restylane offers only one. The two versions of Juvéderm™ are Juvéderm™ Ultra and Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus. Juvéderm™ Ultra is approximately 30percent HA and is more commonly used to add volume to the vermillion border (between the lips and skin border) and to add volume to the lips. This can afford a fuller look without appearing too “Hollywood” or as if "you had something done." Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus is a more robust formula than Juve’Derm Ultra, comprised of approximately 60-percent HA. It is used for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds (smile lines) and oral commissures (marionette lines). The two versions of Juvéderm™ offer more versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds. A third difference relates to the size of the particle of the injected material. Juvéderm™ boasts a "next-generation" hyaluronic acid dermal filler, the only injectable gel that has a smooth consistency gel; other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are made of granular consistency gels.* This smooth consistency gel affords an enhanced performance in how the material is injected and how it is received and interacted by your body. A smoother consistency creates less irritation and therefore less post-injection inflammation. It also means that Juvéderm™ filler should provide a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and creates a natural look and feel.
*Dry test, extrusion of a small amount (≈.025 mL) of JUVÉDERM™ injectable gel and RESTYLANE onto a glass surface at 9-times magnification. RESTYLANE is a registered trademark of Q-Med AB. ConsiderationsFinally, patients overwhelmingly preferred Juvéderm™ products in a study control. In fact, 78 to 88 percent of patients preferred Juvéderm™ injectable gel at six months post-treatment. |
