Purpose

BOTOX® Cosmetic can smooth moderate to severe frown lines in the forehead, around eyes (crow’s feet), between brows (11’s), above eyebrows (to reduce frown lines), just above the upper lip (smoker’s lines), around the nose ("wolf’s snarl") around the lower chin (marionette lines), and around the lower border of the nose (gummy smiles).

Non-Surgical Procedure

For more than 20 years, BOTOX® Cosmetic has been in use, but it was FDA-approved for cosmetic use in 2002. Since then, more than one-million people have received BOTOX® Cosmetic. BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered by physicians and is available only by prescription. Most often, we suggest BOTOX® Cosmetic for patients between 18 and 65 who want temporary improvement (up to four months) in the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows.

Considerations

BOTOX® Cosmetic should not be administered when infection at the proposed injection site is suspected or in patients with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formula. Patients with neurological disorders, such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, have increases risk for serious side effects. The most common side effects include headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop (ptosis), and nausea.
