Purpose

Our intense pulsed light laser removes hair by passing light through the skin, where it eliminates hair follicles with heat energy.

Non-Surgical Procedure

Laser hair removal works best in lighter skinned, darker haired patients. Because the target chromophore in hair follicles is melanin pigment, light-colored skin absorbs less energy, allowing more energy to reach the hair follicle. A Zimmer cooler will provide chilled air circulation to enhance your comfort during laser hair removal.

Treatment Time

Plan to schedule multiple sessions because optimal results are achieved when the laser can reach growing (anagen) hair follicles. Three weeks to six months after treatment, as the dormant (telogen) hairs become active, you may notice new hair growth. Five or six treatments at two-week intervals usually yield long-lasting results. The female face, armpits, and bikini lines are areas that respond fastest to light treatments. Backs, arms, and legs usually need more treatments over time. The scalp is very resistant to treatment.

Results

Repeated laser treatments cause permanent hair reduction. Although studies have shown a “permanent” reduction in hair growth, re-growth may occur over time, although this is usually much slower and much finer than before treatment. Changes in hormones, stress, and metabolism affect hair growth and hair removal. “Permanent” and “total” hair removal may be possible with repeated treatments.
