Portrait Skin Regeneration (PSR)

Portait Plasma Skin Regeneration (PSR) by Rhytec, uses nitrogen plasma gas to heat the dermis to tighten skin, reduce wrinkles, improve skin tone, improve skin texture, diminish pigmentation, and reduce acne scars. In fact, the Portrait has been FDA approved for acne scars. The heat of the gas passes through the top epidermis layer to break down the deeper dermal layer. As the dermal layer heals and regenerates, the top epidermis layer, which will serve as a biological band-aid, eventually sloughs off in 3-7 days, revealing a new, tighter, smoother, virgin epidermal skin with tighter pores, less wrinkles, and overall more youthful tone and complexion than before. Moreover, the dermis below, stimulated by the heat of the plasma, continues to produce new collagen. Thus, even 1 month, 3 months, even 12 months later, there is a regeneration of the skin architecture. Thus, it is the gift that keeps on giving. Research has shown that "patients reported a 68% improvement in overall facial appearance."

The Portrait plasma skin regeneration is a virtual "skin-lift." A face-lift pulls the skin tighter, giving the appearance of tight, and therefore, more youthful appearance. But, the face-lift does NOT do anything to the aging skin architecture or underlying collagen. The Portrait PSR treats the skin; it rejuvenates the skin. I am often asked, "How long will it last?" Nothing is forever, but it should last as long as it takes for Mother Nature to damage and age the skin again. The time varies with genetics, hygiene, skin care, age, hormones, etc.

A single high energy treatment may require some anesthetic blocks and more recovery time (5-7 days), while 3 low energy treatments may only require a local topical anesthetic and less recovery time (3-5 days). The procedure can be applied to the face, neck, chest, and hands. Recommended treatments may be either 1 high energy treatment that may take 1.5 - 2 hours and will require anesthetic blocking or medication to reduce anxiety and discomfort. It is recommended that these persons be driven home. The alternative to 1 high energy treatment is 3 low energy treatments, 1 month apart, which may take 1 - 1.5 hours and generally only requires a topical anesthetic.

I often tell patients who present for Botox that Botox will dampen the tone of muscles that cause the unwanted wrinkles in the skin. However, whereas Botox is good at reducing the lines of motion (lines seen with facial expression), the lines of rest (lines seen without facial expression) typically need to undergo some ablative to remove them.
