Aesthetic ServicesPixel Fractional Skin ResurfacingPixel fractional laser resurfacing
creates thousands of tiny perforations in the skin. The skin around
these holes remains intact and the epidermis, the top layer of skin,
heals from the edges of these "holes". Thus, in increments,
a "fraction" of the skin is resurfaced at a given time. The
net result is to provide improvement in skin tone and texture.
Skin resurfacing is ideally used for wrinkle effacement and diminishes
scars and to overall improves skin texture. No anesthetic is needed. As the years
go by, our skin begins to age and show signs of "wear and tear".
This is most commonly characterized by blotchy pigmentation, broken
capillaries, and a sallow yellowish complexion. Pigmentary changes
of the skin, such as blotchiness or brown spots, may also occur with
age or as a result of birth control pills, pregnancy or genetic factors.
Our skin texture deteriorates with enlarged pores that are intersected
with fine lines and wrinkles. Aging, sun exposure, heredity and
lifestyle factors including nutrition, alcohol consumption and smoking
all may contribute to facial wrinkling. Also, old acne scars further
complicate an already weathered texture. With repeated sun exposure,
alcohol, and poor diet the loss of collagen and elastin is accelerated.
We lose an estimated 1% of our dermal collagen each year after age 20
and that this rate of loss doubles in sun exposed skin. In the early
days, CO2 laser resurfacing was the standard. However, this procedure
was painful, required a long recovery time, and could induce hypopigmentation.
Also, with CO2 resurfacing, some persons looked like "they had something
done to their face". With Pixel
fractional skin resurfacing, the patient may be red for 1-2 days, but
otherwise, no recovery time or downtime is expected. Five to 7
treatment sessions may be required. Pixel fractional laser resurfacing
creates thousands of tiny perforations in the skin. The skin around
these holes remains intact and the epidermis, the top layer of skin,
heals from the edges of these "holes". Thus, in increments,
a "fraction" of the skin is resurfaced at a given time. While
the old layers of skin are removed, the growth of new skin cells is
stimulated. The net result is to provide improvement in skin tone
and texture. Skin resurfacing is ideally used for wrinkle effacement
and to diminish scars to improve skin texture. Pixel resurfacing
is most commonly used to minimize the appearance of fine lines, especially
around the mouth and the eyes. However, it is also effective in
treating facial scars or areas of uneven pigmentation. Laser resurfacing
may be performed on the whole face or in specific regions. Often,
it is done in conjunction other cosmetic operations, such as a facelift
or eyelid surgery. Anesthesia is not normally needed. Unlike
the old CO2, Pixel is safe and therefore, can be used on thin skin areas,
such as the décolleté and neck. Pixel skin resurfacing as a
part of Laser skin rejuvenation is popular because it is relatively
safe, effective, done as an outpatient procedure, and best of all results
in smoother, younger, healthier looking skin.
